Prof. Lorenz Trümper, MD
Professor Lorenz H.P. Trümper, MD, was appointed Chief Medical Officer and member of the Board of Directors on May 1st, 2021. He studied human medicine in Aachen, Freiburg/Breisgau, at the UCD Dublin (Ireland) as well as in Karlsruhe with a scholarship from the German National Academic Foundation and the Cusanuswerk of the German Catholic Bishops. In 1984 he received his medical license and his M.D. from the Albert-Ludwigs-University Freiburg. He then worked as an intern and fellow in internal medicine / hematology at the Ruprecht Karls University of Heidelberg. In 1989, Trümper received a research fellowship from the German Cancer Aid at the Ontario Cancer Institute, Toronto, Canada, in Dr. Tak W. Mak’s lab. As a clinical research fellow, he joined the BMT Unit led by Hans Messner at Princess Margaret Hospital. Lorenz Trümper then worked as Senior Consultant, Deputy Head of the Department and Head of Stem Cell Transplantation in Internal Medicine I at the University Hospital of Saarland University.
Lorenz Trümper completed his habilitation in 1996 on the subject of “Investigations into the pathobiology of Hodgkin's disease using the single-cell polymerase chain reaction”. His work focuses on clinical and translational research of malignant lymphomas. Since November 2000, he has been Director of the Department of Haematology and Medical Oncology at the University Medical Center Göttingen (UMG).
Lorenz Trümper was the founding director of the University Cancer Center (G-CCC) of the UMG, founding president of the German Lymphoma Alliance GLA e.V. and past president of the German Society of Hematology and Medical Oncology. He has held various positions at the Faculty of Medicine and the University Medical Center Göttingen, including member of the Faculty Council and spokesperson, and member of numerous appointment committees. Prof. Trümper was Vice Dean and Deputy Spokesman of the UMG Board of Directors, as well as an elected member of the Senate of the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen, most recently until March 2021. From 2015 to April 30, 2021, Trümper was Dean of Studies at the UMG.
