Prof. Wolfgang Brück, MD

Prof. Wolfgang Brück, MD has been Chief Executive Officer, Head of Research and Teaching and Dean of the Medical Faculty since August 1st, 2019. He studied human medicine at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz from 1980 to 1986, earning his doctorate in 1990. In 1994, he completed his specialist training in neuropathology at the UMG and habilitated in neuropathology in 1996.
After a research stay at the Neurological Institute of the University of Vienna, Wolfgang Brück worked at the Institute of Neuropathology of the Charité in Berlin from 1998 to 2002, where he was initially acting head and from 2000 on C3 Professor of Neuropathology. In 2002, Wolfgang Brück was appointed C4 Professor of Neuropathology at the Georg-August University of Göttingen, where he was Director of the Department of Neuropathology at the University Medical Center Göttingen (UMG) from August 1st, 2002 until he accepted his present position in 2019.
Prof. Brück is an internationally recognized expert in multiple sclerosis and has collaborations with numerous leading international research centers. Over the years, he held several leading positions at the Medical Faculty of the University of Göttingen and the Executive Board of the UMG before his current appointment. For example, in 2004 and 2010 he served as interim Chief Medical Officer, and in 2005 as interim Chief Executive Officer. From October 2005 to March 2009, Brück held the position of Dean of Research, and from April 2011 to July 2019, he served as Dean of Infrastructure and Development and Deputy Director of Research and Teaching.
Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Brück has received several prestigious awards, including the Hans Heinrich Georg Queckenstedt Prize for Multiple Sclerosis Research in 2002, the Hans Georg Mertens Prize for Innovative Research in Neurology in 2008, and the Kohn Award from the British Society of Toxicological Pathologists in 2011. From 2008 to 2016, he was deputy spokesperson for the SFB Transregio TTR43: “The brain as a target of inflammatory processes”.
