Many female academics place extremely high demands on themselves and tend to underestimate their own achievements and successes. It can therefore be very challenging to develop a stable self-confidence and assertiveness in competitive fields such as science. However, this is essential for actively shaping important discussions, for managing employees or for networking during the coffee break at a conference. This seminar therefore focuses on strengthening inner stability and improving the ability to stand up convincingly for yourself and your personal interests. This also includes being able to defend your own boundaries, if necessary

The interview will also focus on your personality, working style and communication skills. It is not only about what you say but also how you behave and communicate. This hands-on workshop will support you in facing the next job interview more confident and well-prepared, e.g. how to make a good first impression, improvement of your conversational skills, how to connect with your personal strengths and deliver an authentic and confident presentation, and how to cope with nervousness.

Science is a field that values precision, critical scrutiny, and outstanding skills, creating a highly competitive environment. These demands often place significant pressure and expectations on researchers, with many feeling less qualified or experienced than their peers. This imposter-feeling can have a wide-ranging impact on personal wellbeing and career progression. This workshop is designed to address the unique challenges faced by first-generation academics experiencing imposter syndrome, providing strategies to enhance self- confidence and navigate academic environments more effectively. The training uses insights from neuroscience and the field of ontology. It further uses techniques from body- centred coaching, improvisation theatre and mindfulness practice.

In this lunch lecture with Q&A our trainer Sabine gives an input about an important topic: She introduces the concept of nonviolent communication by Marshall Rosenberg that facilitates constructive communication.
